Fr. Tighe holding the Curé d'Ars' Heart, St. Joseph Catholic Church, May 2020.

O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Father Philip Tighe, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchizedek, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors.This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

Vespers

by VP

Posted on Sunday August 30, 2020 at 01:00AM in Prayers

The public prayers of the Church, other than those in the great sacrifice of the Mass, are contained in the Breviary.

The whole Office for each day consists of:
Matins, or Morning Song;
Lauds, or the Divine praises;
Prime, Tierce, Sext, and None, or the prayers for the first, third, sixth, and ninth hours, the old Roman division of the day
Vespers, or Even Song;
and Compline, or the Conclusion

. This office was originally chanted daily by the faithful, and is still chanted by some religious orders, the preservers of primitive tradition and fervor. It is daily recited by the clergy; and on Sundays and holidays the Vespers are publicly chanted as part of the solemn worship of the day, to enable the faithful to join in so holy and venerable a form of prayers. The chant is inseparable from worship; and the Church, selecting the solemn Gregorian tones, condemns the frivolous worldly music, which it so little resembles.

All the parts of the office consist of psalms and canticles from the Scripture, with lessons also from Scripture, or the Holy Fathers, and appropriate to the day.

The psalms in the Vespers for Sundays are the 109th, and the following, including the 113th, although, very frequently, the 116th is substituted for the last of these. This series of psalms is most suitable to the ordinary wants of the Church on her weekly festivals. The first is a kind of commemorates of all the great mysteries of our redemption; the second alludes to the praise of God "in the congregation;" the third commemorates the graces and privileges of the just; the fourth is a psalm of praise, as is also that substituted occasionally for the fifth; the fifth celebrates the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. All are prophecies of our Lord and of His Immaculate mother, as well as of the Church. In them we chant Christ, our Lord, as priest forever, offering sacrifice, like Mechizedec, in the form of bread and wine; as Lord of Lords, and King of kings; as true to His promises of ever abiding by His Church, investing her with miraculous powers; and ever spreading the mystic banquet: in them we chant Him as our Redeemer and our God, whom we adore; in them we chant that Immaculate Virgin - the "joyful mother of many children," - and with her raise our hearts and voices to glorify God.

It is not, then, an unmeaning service; but one most appropriate and consoling. Hence, though it is not of obligation to attend Vespers, as it is to hear Mass, all the saints and spiritual writers of the Church urge the faithful to be present at it with piety and devotion. For there is always more benefit and comfort to be derived from the public offices of the Church, than from private devotions, God having ordained that communion of prayers should always have the preference.

O Saint Louis IX, inspire our bishop and priests to preach the Faith with courage, constancy, and love. Strengthen them to combat every evil.Pray that God will raise up courageous and honorable civil leaders who will enact laws respecting the dignity of human life and enforce them with justice, truth, and charity.

Pray for all faithful men and women that they will live virtuous and peaceful lives as they journey toward their final goal of Heaven.

Pray that all children may keep their baptismal innocence and be spared from every evil.

Pray that the sanctity of human life will be forever respected. Pray for an increase in holy vocations to the priesthood and religious life.And Saint Louis, as you have left your earthly throne to assume your heavenly throne, pray that we will one day share with you the eternal crown of salvation after our earthly lives are ended. Amen.

First Friday: Prayer to the Sacred Heart for Priests

Sacred Heart Stained Glass, Raleigh NC

Remember, O most loving Heart of Jesus, that they for whom I pray are those for whom You prayed so earnestly the night before Your death. These are they to whom You look to continue with You in Your sorrows when others forsake You, who share Your griefs and have inherited your persecutions, according to Your word: That the servant is not greater than his Lord.

Remember, O Heart of Jesus, that they are the objects of the worldʼs hatred and Satanʼs deadliest snares. Keep them then, 0 Jesus, in the safe citadel of Your Sacred Heart and there let them be sanctified in truth.

May they be one with you and one among themselves, and grant that multitudes may be brought through their word to believe in You and love You. Amen.

Prayer for heretics, perverts, etc.

 Look down also with compassion on those deluded souls, who under the name of Christians, have gone astray from the One True Fold, of the One Head and Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

O bring them back to Thy Church and to Thee! Dispel their darkness; let them see how passion, and the wiles of the enemy, have blinded and misled them; remove their prejudices; take from them all pride, obstinacy, human respect, and self-conceit. Give them humility, a love of truth, and a strong grace to embrace it, in spite of all the opposition of the world, the flesh, and the Devil.

Prayer to the Holy Angels for Parishes

All you legions and choirs of Angels, please make haste to come to the aid and defense of our One Holy Roman Catholic Church.

Led by St. Michael, may She be protected from destruction within by all modernistic attempts that try to diminish the true presence of God and take away His proper and due respect!

In particular, come to the aid of my parish (name your parish) that it may remain or be remade to be a place of reverence and a stronghold from which the One True Triune God may continue to lead and strengthen us. Amen.

O glorious Saint Michael, guardian and defender of the Church of Jesus Christ, come to the assistance of the Church, against which the powers of Hell are unchained, guard with especial care her august Head, and obtain that for him and for us the hour of triumph may speedily arrive.

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, watch over us during life, defend us against the assaults of the demon, assist us especially at the hour of death; obtain for us a favorable judgment, and the happiness of beholding God face to face for endless ages. Amen

Act of Reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

by VP

Posted on Friday June 28, 2019 at 08:00AM in Prayers

(google free books)

Most Sweet Jesus, whose overflowing charity for men is requited by so much forgetfulness, negligence and contempt, behold us prostrate before Thee, eager to repair by a special act of homage the cruel indifference and injuries to which Thy loving Heart is everywhere subject.

Mindful, alas! that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities, which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts, we humbly ask Thy pardon and declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation, not only for our own personal offenses, but also for the sins of those, who, straying far from the path of salvation, refuse in their obstinate infidelity to follow Thee, their Shepherd and Leader, or, renouncing the promises of their baptism, have cast off the sweet yoke of Thy law.

We are now resolved to expiate each and every deplorable outrage committed against Thee; we are now determined to make amends for the manifold offenses against Christian modesty in unbecoming dress and behavior, for all the foul seductions laid to ensnare the feet of the innocent, for the frequent violations of Sundays and holy days, and the shocking blasphemies uttered against Thee and Thy Saints. We wish also to make amends for the insults to which Thy Vicar on earth and Thy priests are subjected, for the profanation, by conscious neglect or terrible acts of sacrilege, of the very crimes of nations who resist the rights and teaching authority of the Church which Thou hast founded.

Would that we were able to wash away such abominations with our blood. We now offer, in reparation for these violations of Thy divine honor, the satisfaction Thou once made to Thy Eternal Father on the cross and which Thou continuest to renew daily on our altars; we offer it in union with the acts of atonement of Thy Virgin Mother and all the Saints and of the pious faithful on earth; and we sincerely promise to make recompense, as far as we can with the help of Thy grace, for all neglect of Thy great love and for the sins we and others have committed in the past. Henceforth, we will live a life of unswerving faith, of purity of conduct, of perfect observance of the precepts of the Gospel and especially that of charity. We promise to the best of our power to prevent others from offending Thee and to bring as many as possible to follow Thee.

O loving Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mother, our model in reparation, deign to receive the voluntary offering we make of this act of expiation; and by the crowning gift of perseverance keep us faithful unto death in our duty and the allegiance we owe to Thee, so that we may all one day come to that happy home, where with the Father and the Holy Spirit Thou livest and reignest, God, forever and ever. Amen.
