It is discouraging to see the sad repetition of history. Such again is our time now. But these times produce saints and heroes. From this we must take courage, while we pray and fast.

" . . . yet it is not allowed us, under the oppression of the most weighty afflictions, to lose our comfort and rest in Christ . . . Teach us then, O blessed Redeemer, so to regulate all our affections, that neither the love of what we possess, nor the trouble for what we want, may ever arise to such excess, as to separate us from thee."
How do we live in these times? We are loosing more and more especially privacy, true personal property ownership, proper governance, and more. If we have Christ, we have all we need. Nobody can take the love of Christ away. Peace be with us!

Wonderful to learn of this holy man who steadfastly defended the faith over many years in spite of so much pain from cruel tortures.
Love to hear that he was instrumental in reconciling two heroes of mine, St. Maximus and St. Athanasius. Turbulence in the Church is nothing new. We get tangled up so easily.
How ever does the Holy Spirit manage to keep working with us?
Saint Paphnuncius, pray for us!

Excellent writing by St. John Eudes! We do need to pray for our Priests and how they handle confessions for their sake and the sake of the penitent. In Counsels to Confessors, Saint Leonard of Port Maurice says,
"If, for a just reason, absolution must be postponed, let him persuade the penitents as kindly as possible that it is necessary, that it is the confessor’s duty and obligation, and that their own salvation demands this. The priest should encourage them very tenderly to return as soon as possible, so that, having done faithfully the things which were prescribed for their salvation, they may break the bonds of sin and be refreshed by the sweetness of heavenly grace." Priests should have courage and be encouraged by scripture and the words of Jesus, "Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." [John 20:23]

When someone voiced concerns about seeing St. Peter of Verona with the axe in his head, thinking it may be too graphic for children, our dear priest at the time pointed to the giant hanging crucifix above the altar and asked "should I take that one down too?"

Sometimes as an intention before the Rosary or perhaps at other times people pray for the conversion of poor sinners. It would be wonderful to add also for "the conversion of those outside the fold. This would be especially powerful when praying the Rosary with others at Church. We want them to be unified with us in the one true Church founded by Christ receiving graces through the Sacraments and through all that the Catholic Church offers! Mary will help.
